Our Elk Hunting trip was successful in a
different sort of way this year. Mom and Dad drew out two
cow elk tags, and we ended up taking home a
bull, legally! This 6x6 bull was enormous, and had been wounded in the bull hunt just about one week earlier. The sheriff (since the game and fish department never got around to us) decided we could have him because he was not going to live anyway. We found him two days before the end of our hunt, after an amazing first day in which we saw a herd of cows (they came within 50 yards of us, actually...but due to some mishaps we didn't get one), and subsequent days on which two young, healthy bull elks came within 50 yards of us. Getting him out of the field to a place where we could dress him was a challenge though, but we managed!
